The Board of Secondary Education (BSE). Odisha has Officially released the OTET Notification 2025. The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) is a crucial exam for candidates aspiring to become teachers in government and private schools across Odisha. The Online application process will commerce on 12th November to 25th November. The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) is a state-level eligibility test which is conducted once in year to Analyses the eligibility of aspirants for classes I to VIII Teachers in government, Private aided, and private unaided schools of Odisha.

Eligibility Criteria :

The OTET Exam is Conducted for two papers – paper I (for Primary Teachers, Class I-V and paper II(For Upper Primary Teacher, Class VI-VIII).

  • Qualification:
    • 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D. El. ED)
  • Or
    • 12th with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 2-years D. El. ED (as per NCTE norms)
    • Graduation and passed or appearing in 2-year D. El. Ed.

Paper II (Class VI-VIII)

  • Qualification :
    • Graduation and passed or appearing in 2-year D. El. ED
    • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed appearing in 1-year B. Ed
    • 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 4-year B.A / B. Sc Ed or Ed/B. Sc. Ed.

Age Limit :

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years
  • Maximum Age: As per Government Norms (usually 32 Years)
  • Age Relaxations: Applicable for SC/ST/OBC: and Female candidates as per Odisha Government rules.

Exam Pattern :

  • The OTET Exam Consists of two papers. Each paper is of 150 marks with 150 multiple-choice questions.
  • Paper 1 is for candidates aspiring to teach Classes I to V. It comprises five compulsory sections, each with 30 questions for 30 marks.

Child Development & Pedagogy Understanding child development, the learning process, inclusive education, children with special needs, teaching approaches, and assessment.
Language I Candidates must choose one from Odia, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, or Bengali. Focuses on language proficiency, elements of the language, and pedagogy of language development.
Language II (English) English is compulsory for all. Focuses on English language proficiency, comprehension, and pedagogy of language development.
Mathematics Number systems, fundamental operations, fractions and decimals, factors and multiples, percentage, measurement, shapes and spatial relationships, basic geometry, data handling, and patterns.
Environmental Studies (EVS) Concepts and significance of EVS, integration of science and social science, aims and objectives of teaching EVS, methods (survey, practical work, discussion, project), and evaluation in EVS.

 

Paper II Syllabus (Classes VI-VIII) :

Child Development & Pedagogy Focuses on child development during upper primary school, the learning process, curriculum, teaching-learning approaches, and evaluation.
Language I Candidates choose one from Odia, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, or Bengali.

Optional Section (Choose One) Mathematics & Science (60 questions total, 30 from each subject) OR Social Studies (60 questions total, 30 from History/Political Science and 30 from Geography).

Application Fee :

    • Category : Rs. ₹400/– (Rupees Four Hundred) Only
    • For Other Category  : Rs. 600/– (Rupees Six Hundred) Only

Selection Process :

  1. Application and Eligibility Check: Candidates must submit an online application and meet the basic academic and training qualifications set by the BSE Odisha.
  2. Written Examination: Candidates appear for Paper I, Paper II, or both (depending on their eligibility and aspiration) in an offline (OMR-based) multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam.
  3. Minimum Qualifying Marks: Candidates must achieve the prescribed minimum marks to be declared “OTET Pass”.
    • General Category: 60% or more (90 out of 150 marks).
    • SC, ST, SEBC/OBC, Physically Handicapped (PH) categories: 50% or more (75 out of 150 marks).
  4. Result and Certification: Successful candidates are awarded an OTET Eligibility Certificate by the BSE Odisha. This certificate is now valid for a lifetime.
  5. Recruitment Stage: The OTET certificate makes a candidate eligible to apply for actual teaching vacancies in government or private-aided schools in Odisha. The final selection for a job is part of a separate recruitment process conducted by the respective school authorities or government body, which may include further interviews or other criteria.
